The Jim Cockrum Newsletter (aka CES News) 11-25-2011 - Writing a book, eBay selling, and drop shipping advice
Jim Cockrum

1. Thinking of writing a book?

Now that I have a couple of books that have done well I'm being approached frequently by those seeking advice on how to successfully launch a book.

My advice for a successful book launch is the same advice I'd give for any other product, website, cause etc.

Step one is to find your audience and then engage in meaningful discourse with that audience online. This should happen WELL BEFORE you write the book, build the product, or launch a website.

When I took marketing classes in school I learned everything in reverse order of how the "real world" works.

In the real world, putting the "product development" before "building an audience" is a formula for almost certain failure.

In other words, if you can't give me a written list of the names of the people that are eagerly waiting for your book, you will have a very hard time selling it once it's written. That's painful to hear I know, but I'm trusted because I give it to you straight.

Do you want to learn how to grow an eager audience of fans that are ready to buy your book when it launches?

I happen to have two great books that can teach you how!

My "101 Free Marketing" bestseller (on Amazon, and now audio on Audible.com) - get details here:

http://www.jimcockrum.com/blog/?p=1655

In that book you'll learn multiple ways to become perceived as a leader and grow an audience that listens when you talk, and cares about what you have to say.

...and then there's my all time best seller:

http://www.SilentSalesMachine.com

If you are still looking for "what works" online then this is a MUST read 100+ page ebook that will open your eyes.

Check out the reader comments on either of those two links - you'll see that what I teach works.

2. Is eBay a dying opportunity?

The short answer is "NO"!

I'm putting my money where my mouth is on that answer! I spent well over $10K on eBay inventory in October and I plan to sell it for at least triple my investment (so far it's going very well!) It's important to note that I'm paying others to do the boxing, shipping etc. for me. I don't spend time toying around on eBay, but I pay others to do it so that it's just another income stream.

Want to learn some creative eBay strategies from some cutting edge thinkers?

For only $10 you can get a handful of fantastic eBay interviews from long time partner and MySilentTeam.com contributor Terry Gibbs. This is an offer he put together just for YOU as my reader!

One of those interviews is a recording of Terry and I talking about how to expand beyond eBay (we call it escaping the volume trap).

Other interviews are with creative leaders in the eBay space, how to find profitable items, the truth about antiques (Terry's specialty), and much more. You'll learn a ton from these interviews. It's like getting an eBay brain boost for the price of a fast food meal.

  • Quick Tip 2

Drop shipping success?

For some reason I've had a lot of people asking me about drop shipping lately. In theory, it's an easy way to get started selling products online, but in reality it's no cake walk.

A drop ship arrangement is one in which you do the selling and someone else does the shipping.

I haven't heard a good drop shipping success story in years. If you are going to have success with a drop shipping arrangement it will likely result from an exclusive arrangement that you seek out and secure on your own (not from a directory). For example, a good arrangement would be a local widget maker who allows you to represent them on eBay, and they'll ship whatever you sell.

FBA on the other hand has all the benefits of drop shipping because you send all your inventory to Amazon and THEY do the shipping. As long as your profit margin is big enough, this is a fantastic arrangement. Learn more at http://www.ProvenAmazonCourse.com
